Ellsworth is a Subglacial Lake beneath the Antarctic ice sheet. Using seismic and radar surveys it has been possible to map the outline of the lake, measure it’s depth and evaluate whether sediments, which could contain a record of ice sheet history, are present on the lake floor.
These findings have revealed that Subglacial Lake Ellsworth is an ideal candidate for exploration.
